Teaching

University Teaching

My professional and academic interests range from composition and conversation classes through lexicography and grammar to contrastive linguistics and translation studies.

My teaching commitments at Osnabrück University include English as a second language, first-year study skills, and English language and literature. For current courses, see my university homepage.

Academic writing and academic presentations

Seminars on academic and professional writing in English

I provide academic and professional writing assistance for managers, graduate students and scholars of all disciplines. Tuition can be on a one-to-one basis or in a small group, depending on your needs.

Prices are adjusted to your academic level and the complexity of the assignment. Please get in touch with me via the contact page to discuss your requirements. I look forward to hearing from you.

Seminars on academic presentations in English

These seminars are intended to provide participants with the language and skills needed to give well-structured, attractive presentations in English.

Here are some of the clients I've had the pleasure of working with:

Teacher Training

I offer in-service teacher training in English and French language and literature, with a specialization in evaluation and testing, computer-assisted language learning, pedagogic grammar, vocabulary learning, composition teaching and error correction. Please get in touch with me via the contact page to discuss your requirements. I look forward to hearing from you.

The in-service teacher training courses I have held for the Institut für Lehrerfortbildung / Mülheim an der Ruhr, the Bezirksregierung Münster and the Bezirksregierung Arnsberg focussed on ways of improving the teaching of English and French prose composition to German sixth-formers by means of procedural facilitation and computer-assisted instruction.

During those courses I found that many teachers had little practice in writing skills and were largely uninformed about differences between German and English prose styles. With this in view John D. Gallagher and I decided to conduct an English writing workshop aimed at addressing some of the existing deficiencies. The course was first held in February 2002.

Evaluation of Language Courses

I offer professional advice on all matters related to the planning, implementation and evaluation of language courses.
